Island in the Sun A much more successful movie of 1957 was Island in the Sun, based on Alec Waugh's novel of the same name. The film starred Harry Belafonte, Joan Fontaine and Dorothy Dandridge. Belafonte sang the title song, a calypso-like number composed for him by Irving Burgie (Lord Burgess).
