Hollywood responded to the calypso craze in 1957 by promptly releasing three calypso-themed movies : Calypso Joe, Calypso Heat Wave and Bop Girl Goes Calypso. These movies were essentially opportunities to present song and dance scenes; their plots were minimal. Movie lobby cards, posters and press books highlighted both the stars and musicians of the films. In keeping with the graphics of record covers and sheet music, movie promotional materials portrayed calypso as dynamic, sensual and fun.

Calypso Joe

Calypso Joe starred Herb Jeffries (known for his appearances in Black westerns) and Angie Dickinson, with music by the Duke of Iron, Lord Flea and the Easy Riders.
