Jamaica

In fall 1957 the musical Jamaica opened on Broadway, where it continued to run for over 500 performances. The show starred Lena Horne and Ricardo Montalban, with music composed by Harold Arlen. Both Horne and Josephine Premice sang calypso-influenced songs in the show. With songs like "Leave the Atom Alone," Jamaica reflected the American fantasy of a tranquil Caribbean during the Cold War of the 1950s.
