Publishing Calypso

During the late 1950s, Americans could follow calypso trends in a variety of publications.
 

In additional to regular coverage of calypso acts in newspapers, general magazines and entertainment industry periodicals, a few calypso magazines were rushed to press. These magazines included biographical articles about American and Caribbean calypso stars, photographs of the stars, song lyrics and illustrated dance steps.

Also published during this era were a few calypso detective novels, with varying levels of detail about the music. Like other publications, the cover art of the novels reflected American perceptions of the Caribbean as an exotic world.
